The monography focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the applicable competition policy methods in the railway sector, including polemic about need to define the relevant market and to identify the main problems associated with the use of standard methods for defining the relevant market. In single chapters, specifics linked to the economic effects of costs and revenues, technical aspects and administrative regulation of the sector in the context of the liberalization reforms conducted by the European Union are identified. Based on the sectoral analysis, the basic barriers to the entry of competitors into the sector and the possibilities of overcoming them are defined. Next, the basic economic characteristics of the sector within the Czech economy are set. In the next section, a detailed analysis of all significant distortions of the competitive environment in the railway sector which were investigated by the EU Commission and the British Competition Authorities is done.
